If you have read this blog for any amount of time you know I have a crazy obsession with cheese.
It seems to pop up in almost every recipe I make and that’s definitely not something I’m apologizing for.
There is a story behind my, shall we say little hobby. As long as I can remember I have loved cheese. When I was young my Grandpa was always getting his grandkids to “try this cheese.” I could almost guarantee that at most events he would have a cheese platter. And I would even go so far as to bet that it would include brie; we have quite a history with that creamy little number.
When I went to California for Camp Blogaway I was lucky enough to go a day early. The fabulous folks at Redwood Hill Farm had sent some cheese ahead of me so I could share some with my family. The first person I thought of was my Grandpa.
He is the reason I am an adventurous eater.
I hesitated, only slightly, at the escargot I ordered a few years ago on a cruise {absolutely fantastic. In case you were wondering}. I’ve enjoyed sushi and sashimi numerous times, the first being in high school when my aunt prepared it. I’ve eaten at French restaurants in the heart of New Orleans that had a store front mannequin and more knick knacks than people. He very gently coaxed me to try alligator. It really does taste like chicken, by the way. I have yet to try any type of bug delicacy but I’m thinking that may be where I draw the line. Who knows. Perhaps there is a chocolate covered ant in my future.
As you can see my inquisitive palette doesn’t stop at cheese but it is my favorite thing to experiment with.
Fortunately I also know some folks who make some great cheese…Redwood Hill Farm. Their cheeses are made from 100% goat’s milk, have won numerous awards, and, dare I say, absolutely fantastic. Although I haven’t visited the farm personally the pictures on their website are breathtaking. It has been family owned since 1968 so I think they know a thing or two about goats. And cheese.
It is also refreshing to know that they are certified humane and the ingredients for their cheese are all things you would recognize when you read the label.
And now that I’ve tickled your taste buds with all of this fancy talk let me tell you how you can find Redwood Hill Farm cheese. Check out their website to find a store in your area that sells their products.
