When things get hectic, kinda like the last two weeks, I tend to reach for comforting foods that instantly relax me.
I needed the relaxation when I got home Sunday since, apparently, the Sugar Plum Fairy didn’t get my memo that I needed her to finish the Christmas decorating while I was gone. Â This Citrus Hot Chocolate was just the thing to bring me back to reality and feel inspired to do some decorating.
I’ll need a few more gallons of this before the decorating is done but I’ve got plenty of cocoa and oranges to pull that off. Â All the laundry I have to deal with…there’s not enough hot chocolate on the planet to inspire me to do that. Â Hopefully there is a laundry fairy but I’m not holding my breath.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups lowfat milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan add the sugar and cocoa. Add the milk and cream and use a whisk to beat until smooth.
- Heat over medium heat until warm, stirring occasionally. Add the orange zest and pour into mugs.
- Garnish with whipped cream and additional orange zest, if desired.
