Dark Chocolate Chip Cherry Muffins

Have I told you how awesome my neighbors are!?

Probably not since I’d hate to be the cause of a mas exodus to southern Utah County aaaaaannnnnd…

The real reason is I want ALL these cherries to myself.  Yes.  My true colors shining through right there.

You’ve heard the saying “never feed the bears” right?  Well, never offer a food blogger fresh fruit from your cherry tree or you may never get rid of them.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Needless to say I do have fabulous neighbors who have quite a green thumb so when they asked me if I wanted some cherries I didn’t hesitate.  If you happen to be using store bought cherries {which I’ve found tend to be larger than what I’m using} I would cut them in half.  I think these muffins should also freeze well.  I would have tried that if it weren’t for the four ravenous boys that ate them all before I knew what hit.

So go get yourself a neighbor with a cherry tree.  If you have more than one child at home make a double batch.  And for goodness sakes, don’t feed the food bloggers!

  2. Gorgeous cherries! I am soooo jealous! I’ve not been to Utah, but I heard the place is wonderful…and the people extra-friendly! Hehehe! So, does their cherry tree blossom with pretty flowers in the spring? They must be lovely! And these dark choc and cherry muffins…To.Die.For.

    • Krista says:

Thanks Jen! Yes, people are very friendly! The springtime here is beautiful with all the flowering fruit trees and the harvest is just as good!

  3. Loving cherry season! What a perfect way to use these tasty little gems. I bet these muffins were to die for right out of the oven. Hope you had a great 4th!

  5. I love chocolate and cherries, too! And those cherries are so pretty, they almost look fake.:)

    • Krista says:

Aren’t the cherries gorgeous!? They warned me they were tart so when my son bit into one he made an awesome sour face. Telling him the muffins would be sweet was a bit difficult but he finally gave in.

  6. Kris says:

our new house? has a cherry tree!! we are harvesting soon… I will have to save some for this recipe!

  7. Medeja says:

  8. Suzanne says:

How lucky to have neighbors who have fresh homegrown cherries. These muffins look yummy.

  9. Deborah says:

In our last house, our neighbors had a cherry tree. The bad thing was that they didn’t take care of it, and the cherries always had worms. That, and the fact that it was halfway over our driveway and so we constantly had cherry pits all over our driveway from the birds made it so we hated that cherry tree. But a neighbor that takes care of their tree? I could definitely use one of those!!(And some of these muffins!)

    • Krista says:

Well that sounds like loads of fun (not)…to protect it from the birds they put a huge net over it! Isn’t that too funny!? So smart.

  10. Now I am going to have to get more cherries! I just ate the last of mine, and now I want these muffins!

  11. I’m loving all of these cherry ideas popping up lately! I haven’t had a clue what to do with them.

    • Krista says:

I haven’t baked or cooked much with cherries either but when they called and said they had tons I couldn’t resist. I’m SO glad I took them up on their offer!

  12. i have a small cherry tree but never had any cherries. the birds and chipmunks eat them before I have a chance :(
Now, i do need a neighbor with a big cherry tree since we all love cherries around here.
    Lovely looking muffins Krista

  13. How fantastic that you have neighbors that are willing to share their cherries. Chocolate and cherries are one of my favorite combinations and I can only imagine how good these muffins must taste.

  14. Raechel I says:

Hi, These look great, and are on my list of things to make this week. But, nowhere do I see the amount of dark chocolate chips you use.
I wouldn’t want to over/underwhelm the cherries, so knowing the amount that you use would be fantastic! Thanks!

    • Krista says:

Wow. I’m an airhead! I completely left out the most important ingredient! It’s 1 cup and I just fixed it on the recipe. Thanks for pointing that out to me!

  15. Chocolate and cherry, I think I love everything beginning with CH! Nice muffin recipe :)
