Firecracker Candy {Alphabet Summer – Letter F}

If you are like me than you are headed to the store in a minute for three things that you forgot to grab on your last trip to the store.

While you are there pickup a package of Twizzlers and few white and blue candy sticks for this little project.  They will keep the kids occupied while you whip up that potato salad only to serve later as their ticket to a late night sugar high while you watch fireworks.

I’m a genius, no!?

I do have my moments.  And if your kids are like mine you might want to pick up two packages of Twizzlers since half of them will end up in their stomachs before they even have a chance to say firecracker.

Firecracker Candy

Yield: 6 candy firecrackers

Ingredients

  • 2 cherry Twizzler Twists
  • 2 blue and white candy sticks

Instructions

  1. First, break each of the candy sticks into three pieces. If they aren't exactly the same it's okay but don't let the kids see which one is smaller or you could have a fight on your hands.
  2. Remove the plastic from the candy and separate the individual strands from the Twizzler bunch.
  3. Take one strand of licorice and press the tip gently onto one end of the candy stick. Wrap the strand around the candy stick, following the ribbon of blue, and pressing gently as you go. You should be able to wrap down one side and up the other until the licorice runs out or has just about an inch left. Repeat with one more strand of licorice.
  4. Pinch off any extra licorice. Roundup three - one inch pieces of licorice and pinch together at the bottom. Now press onto one end of the candy stick.
  5. Repeat until all the candy sticks have been used. Place in a bag as a party favor, use as an edible centerpiece, or pass out to kids during the fireworks.
