As far back as I can remember the Fourth of July has been a special celebration for our family. It was a time for gathering together to swim until we were all pruney, eat until we can’t possibly eat anymore, and enjoy pyrotechnic shows sponsored by my pyromaniac uncles and the local fireworks booth.
Our family’s Fourth of July festivities were something my sister and I always looked forward to. In fact, I remember one year my parents wanted to go camping and we threw the biggest tantrum that they finally agreed to leave the day after. Winning. I also remember creating my first family movie one year. The video camera was the size of a large boombox and I don’t dare watch the tape until my motion sickness pills kick in. I think I’ve come a long way…I hope.
Along with the fond memories I hold dear are the classic recipes that continue to be served, including the best potato salad you will ever taste. Trust me. I’ve learned how to perfect it over the years and now that my grandparents are older and no longer able to pull off such feats of awesomeness every year I like to think I’m carrying the torch.
And, while some things change something that will never change is the great taste of Hellmann’s which is why I always use it to cook with. I’m not the only one who tastes the good either so as Hellmann’s is about to celebrate their 100th birthday Mario Batali has teamed up to add some pizzazz to some traditional recipes.
For example, basic burger or burger with a juicy twist?
You don’t have to answer that. Just run to your closest Sam’s Club because I have a strong suspicion you’ll be making these recipes over and over again this summer!Disclosure: This post is part of a campaign in conjunction with lunchbox.
