I am so impressed with myself right now.
I managed to make ice cream, well…sorbet, while I was at my parents in California. For someone who has relied completely on store bought ice cream this was quite exciting!
When summer began I read page after page of mouth watering, sweet tooth satisfying ice cream. I’m kind of obsessed. I would begin reading the instructions only to come to the end and realize you needed a machine to finish off the job, something I do not have. I have since found a few recipes that don’t require a machine but I have come to the conclusion that an ice cream maker is in my future…perhaps for my birthday, Christmas, or Valentine’s Day {hint, hint}.
In the meantime, I have discovered that sorbets are deliciously satisfying and, wait for it, you don’t need a machine! As I mentioned earlier my parents have a lemon tree so naturally my first thought was to make a fresh, tangy lemon sorbet. Paired with a hint of basil this version will quickly become a favorite!
Lemon-Basil Sorbet
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup basil leaves
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 2 tsp lemon zest

That looks so refreshing. I’m going to have to try that. Yum.
Thank you Amanda! It so great after a long, hot day!
Just had a super salty dinner & I would love to dive into a big bowl of this right now!
This would make the perfect ending!
This really does look refreshing and delicious. I’ve been drinking water with lemon slices and basil leaves on hot days, but this looks amazing. I’ll be trying it.
Thanks! It is such a perfect combination, isn’t it!?
I just saw a lemon basil ice cream on another blog, and now this… It’s a SIGN! I really do need to make this today!
If that’s not serendipity I don’t know what is!
What a great summer recipe! It looks delicious:)
Thank you Jessica!
That looks so refreshing & I LOVE lemon!! I’m getting ready to try my hand at peach sorbet this coming week.
Thank you! I would love to try peach sorbet! Yummy!
I would DIE to have a lemon tree, but unfortunately, they don’t really grow in Utah!
This sorbet sounds amazing!
Yes! Definitely one of the downfalls of living here. I loved having fresh lemons whenever I wanted while I was at my parents!
This looks like the perfect summer dessert! YUM! I love lemon sorbet!
Thank you Autumn!
Good for you! It looks fantastic.
Thanks Sommer! I don’t know why it took me so long to try this…it is definitely a fave!
Ever since I got my ice cream maker, I’ve been addicted to making my own gelato, ice cream, sorbet, you name it! Great recipe!
Thank you! I think having my own ice cream maker will definitely be my downfall. I can’t wait!
Lemon and Basil in a sorbet sounds heavenly! You definitely need to get an ice cream maker! The Cuisinart ones with the freezeable containers are SO handy.
Once you get yours, here are a couple recipes for you to try:

Thank you Ann! Once I get one I will definitely give those a try! The Peach Banana Coconut definitely caught my eye…all flavors I love!
You would love an ice cream machine. The possibilities are endless. In the meantime, it looks as though you made a beautiful sorbet – lovely addition of basil.
I definitely need to start an ice cream machine fund! There are so many different combinations I have wanted to make this summer. My list is so long that is probably all I will be sharing next summer! Thank you for the lovely comment
Love the bright flavors in your lemon basil sorbet!! We need this here today. Have a wonderful weekend
Sounds super refreshing! I love lemon stuff; especially with basil.
