My family really likes food.
I mean, who doesn’t, right!? Anytime there is a gathering, there is food. Lots and lot of food.
I’m sure the tradition started long before my parents were even a twinkle in their parents eyes. I have been so intrigued lately by the stories my mother and grandparents have to share. Food is the glue that attracts everyone around the dinner table to reminisce, laugh, cry, and connect. It is the same now as it was then and their memories are woven with family recipes.
One of them involves a cookie jar. In the top left corner of that picture is the cookie jar that belonged to my Great Grandmother and now it’s my mothers. She has fond memories of it being filled with cookies to satisfy any sweet tooth. My mother received the jar as a gift and, along with it, the original Oatmeal Cookie recipe her Grandmother used to fill it. I had the opportunity to make these simple and delicious cookies while in California and fill the jar once more. From our family kitchen to yours, enjoy filling your jar!

Thank you Rachel! I was curious when I noticed the recipe called for shortening and no butter. With butter being rather expensive it is definitely a budget friendly cookie!

Thank you Marla! I was so excited when my mom showed me the original recipe. I’m completely obsessed with old family recipes right now.
