Winger’s Sticky Chicken Fingers

From the time I was young my family has always been a sports watching, snack munching, yelling at the television hoping the referees will hear you kinda family.  The men that is.

To this day, when football season rolls around and the sound of the announcers fills the house it makes me miss my family and our loud parties where the women would busy themselves in the kitchen, the cousins run around, and the men shout loudly at inanimate objects hoping to change the outcome of their favorite team.

I suppose, in many ways, we haven’t evolved too much from our caveman days.

And with four boys, the day has arrived when they will join the men in their caveman rituals while they yell at inanimate objects, stuff their faces with chips, and scratch themselves.  Okay, the scratching isn’t a pretty picture but it is what it is and you can’t act like it doesn’t happen.

Mr won tickets to the BYU Football game yesterday and since he took our oldest last year it’s my 6 year old’s turn to join him this year. While they will actually be yelling at moving objects tonight, I will be sitting with 3 rather disappointed boys who couldn’t join them.  I thought I’d join them in their rituals, let them yell at the television, and, most importantly, stuff their faces with these sticky fingers.

They are ridiculously easy to make, taste exactly like the sticky fingers from our favorite restaurant, and are perfect for game night!

Winger’s Chicken Fingers

Prep Time: 2 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 32 minutes

Winger’s Chicken Fingers

Ingredients

  • 1 - 3 lb bag precooked frozen chicken strips, I like Tyson
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons - 1/4 cup Frank's Hot Sauce
  • celery sticks (optional)
  • blue cheese dressing (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  2. Place the frozen chicken strips in a 9x13 baking dish. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl whisk together the brown sugar, vinegar, water, soy sauce, ketchup, cornstarch, and hot sauce. Pour over the chicken strips ensuring to coat each piece of chicken.
  4. Bake for 25 minutes, rotating the chicken half way through to coat with the sauce.
  5. Once cooked remove from the baking dish and place on a baking sheet or platter. Pour the remaining sauce into a small pot and bring to boil over medium heat. Boil for a minute until sauce is thickened.
  6. Serve immediately with the chicken fingers.

Notes

Under yield I could say this feeds an army but I'm not sure that's a technical term. So if you are feeding an army this recipe is for you. If you are feeding a family of four cut it in half.

    You are lucky my kids aren’t home tonight because if they saw me looking at these, they would BEG me to make them! LOL
